David Cargill was included in Dundee’s first team from the end of 1914. He joined the club at the start of the 1914/15 season, having been signed from junior club Osbourne. Aged twenty years old, he was 5ft 9in, and had scored 31 goals the previous season.
He was an apprentice with Wm. Fergusson & Sons, Ltd, manufacturers, who were located at Dudhope Works.
It was reported that “he was the first active Dundee footballer to answer his country’s call.” He enlisted as a Private with the Royal Scots.
David joined Dundee Hibs in August 1919.
