Bailie John Thomson was elected to the board in April 1944, and was soon voted in as Chairman. The directors were very keen to get football started again, and were hoping to invite George Anderson, from Aberdeen, to join the board, and allow him to start the job of rebuilding a new team.
He resigned from the board in 1951, as he was “disturbed about the way certain transactions had been carried out.” This was in reference to the way the transfer of Bobby Flavell was handled. He felt that George Anderson was keeping the board in “the dark.”
Mr Thomson was a grocer by profession. He was also a town council representative.
A keen sportsman, he held various official roles, and was President of the Dundee Bowling Association, a board member of Dundee Ice Rink, and ice hockey committee. He was a member of Maryfield Bowling Club and gifted a trophy in his name for a competition between clubs in the city.
